Clark Art Institute Fellowships 2022-2023 offered by the Research and Academic Program (RAP) are awarded every year to established and scholars with promising careers for research purposes. This is awarded with the aim of encouraging the development of a critical commitment to inquiry in the theory, history, and interpretation of art and visual culture.
The Clark Art Institute offers several Fellowships. And as part of their commitment to fostering diverse engagements with the visual arts, the Research and Academic Program (RAP), particularly seeks to elevate constituencies, subjects, and methods that have historically been underrepresented in the discipline.
The Clark Art Institute Fellowships are intended to nurture a variety of disciplinary approaches and support new voices in art history.

Clark Art Institute Fellowships Amount & Coverage
The Clark Art Institute Fellowships are worth $30,000 per semester. They are given to recipients based on their needs and earnings. The cost of travelling to and from the Clark institute will be refunded to the recipient. And in cases where the recipient has a dependant, their travelling expenses would be covered too. Fellows’ tax liability to the United States government will be considered in accordance with the tax regulations of the Internal Revenue Service on a case-by-case basis.
Housing
Recipients of the Clark Art Institute Fellowships will be provided with an apartment. The apartment is a recently refurbished and expanded late 19th-century house across the street from the Clark campus. Six apartments are available, ranging in size from one to two bedrooms. They also have additional spaces.
Each apartment is fully furnished and linked to the Clark’s computer network.
Accommodation and services, except long-distance telephone, will be provided by the Clark. Please note that pets are not allowed in the Scholars’ Residence. And no smoking is permitted inside any Clark building.
Additionally, Fellows are provided with a private officer in the Manton Research Center. The office space is accessible from 8AM until 11PM. However, on weekends, the offices close earlier.
Computers and IT support will be provided upon request.
Eligibility and Criteria for Clark Art Institute Fellowships
To be qualified for the Clark Art Institute Fellowships, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Required Language: English Language
- Eligible Countries: All countries in the world
- Applicants should hold a PhD or demonstrate equivalent professional level.
- Applicants must come from the academic or museum worlds or from other professional backgrounds.
- Applicants may be employed, full or part-time, or be independent scholars, curators, and/or critics.
- Applicants should have an excellent writing skills.
- Excellent research skills: that is experience with independently carrying out empirical research, experience with qualitative research (conducting interviews, qualitative analysis), preferable also experience with quantitative research.
Please note: The Clark does not award pre-doctoral fellowships.
