Sogakope Senior High School (SOGASCO) also known as Lower Volta Varsity, is set to mark its 60th Anniversary after its establishment in the year 1961.
The school which was established by the Ghana Educational Trust soon after the independence of Ghana has risen to become one of the best high schools in the Volta Region and Ghana at large.
As its motto “No Cross, No Cross” suggests, SOGASCO can boast of nurturing the most disciplined and best students of good character in the past 60 years. Thanks to the good teachers and staff of the school who have upheld the school’s Mission “To offer quality education to its students to attain academic and moral excellence in discipline and clean environment to prepare them for tertiary education.” And Vision “To be an excellent producer of students with high academic standards, disciplined, principled and morally upright, to ensure holistic development.”
The Sogasco @ 60 anniversary would be a week-long celebration that begins on Monday 21st, 2022, and ends on Sunday 27th, 2022.
A visit to the school shows that preparations are underway to make the Diamond Jubilee celebrations fun and memorable.
We bring to you the full list of exciting events you don’t want to miss in this week-long event.
1. On Monday 21st November 2022, there will be General Cleaning by students from 9 AM to 12 PM. Later in the day, there would be a Tour of Important places in the school by SOSA, the Board, and the Management of the school. Also, a candlelight procession through the Sogakope township would be held from 5 PM to 7 PM.
2. Tuesday, 22nd November 2022 will be Arrival on campus by old students and all who would want to witness the Sogasco @ 60 celebrations from 9 AM to 12 PM. From 1 PM to 4 PM, SOSA, The school board, and Management would undertake another tour to important places in the school. From 5 PM to 7 PM, there will be another candlelight procession through the Sogakope township.
3. On Wednesday, 23rd November 2022, a Science and Maths Interhouse Quiz Competition would be held from 9 AM to 12 PM. After that comes a Photo gallery exhibition and Sale of Anniversary Items from 1 PM to 3 PM. Later in the evening, Mr. and Miss Sogasco would be held from 3 PM to 6 PM.
4. Thursday 24th November 2022 will mark another Exhibition and Sale of Anniversary items from 9 AM to 12 PM. Followed by Anniversary Games Interhouses competition which will have students and SOSANs competing in indoor and outdoor games. Some of the games would include Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, Ludu, Table Tennis, just to mention a few.
5. Friday 25th November 2022 will give room again for the Exhibition and Sale of Anniversary items and SOGASCO in Pictures from 9 AM to 12 PM. A Lunch: Sala-a Level (Waakye) would be held from 1 PM to 2 PM. This would be followed by an Anniversary Lecture by the District Director of Education on the theme, Leveraging ICT Education for Nationality Development. Part 2 of this program was designed for Award Ceremony — awards would be given to Teachers and Students who have played exceptional leadership roles in the school. This will be held between 2 PM to 4 PM. SOSA Congress and Socialization would be held from 5 PM to 7 PM. Borborbor music would be on full blast and the dress code for the night is regional wear and styles.
6. On Saturday 26th, 2022, there will be an Exhibition and Sale of Anniversary Items and a stand for SOSANS (SMEs interested in showcasing items for sale) from 9 AM to 12 PM. After this, comes the grand anniversary durbar with Guest Speaker as His Excellency, The Vice-President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. And there will also be an unveiling of the Anniversary Project, and ICT Lab/Library Complex together will the Honorable Minister of Education and other dignitaries. Anniversary Lunch will later be held at Shekina Glory Hotel and Residency for Government officials and special invited guests, SOSANS will have theirs at Seman Lodge. Later that evening, a musical concert would be held from 4 PM to 6 PM by the old students. A Dinner night would follow with a live band at Shekina Glory hotel.
7. Sunday 27th November 2022 which is the last day of the program, there would be a Thanksgiving Service from 9 AM to 12 PM. From 1 PM to 2 Pm would be a Food Bazaar and after that is the departure.
